Development Pathway Program

The Wilston Grange AFC aims to create an environment that supports and delivers sustained success in the QAFL competition & Youth football.

To achieve this goal the Club executive identified a need to focus on not only the development of players, but coaches, support personnel/volunteers and the Gorilla football community. Recently, a Development Committee was established and has been empowered by Junior and Senior club committees to design, develop, implement and manage a “Development Pathway Program” covering;

  • Recruitment and appointment of Youth & Senior coaches
  • Development of aligned training plans
  • Implement processes to support the Development Pathway, and administer participation (playing up/down etc.) enabling optimal development for players
  • Conducting additional activities to maximise player, coach and volunteer improvement
  • Engagement with AFLQ, NEAFL, AFLBJ and other clubs to optimise our development approach

Strategy Benefits: - The shared benefits the initiative aims to provide:

  1. Increased opportunities for players to reach their goals/potential
  2. A model that is supported by AFLQ and used as a benchmark by other clubs
  3. Consistency (whole of club approach - from u12s through to Seniors)
  4. An integrated approach to development and learning for parents, players, coaches, volunteers
  5. Increased capacity to facilitate & encourage youth transitioning to senior football
  6. Engagement of senior playing group with youth teams - support for coaches
  7. Enhancing the Gorillas reputation and standing in the community as leaders and innovators

What next?

Integrated training standards and development activities have been established as we look to aid our young men and women with the best possible opportunity to perform to their potential. Stay tuned in the new year for more information from respective coaches and the Development Committee as collectively we move forward as one for a fun and rewarding year.

Kind Regards,

The WGAFC Development Committee
